2007 Carolina Motorsports Park
The V8 StockCar Series visited Carolina Motorsports Park, near Kershaw, South Carolina for races 5 and 6 for 2007. CMP is a beautiful facility, with a very technical 2.23 mile road course.
The course features 14 corners, many which are tight, and off camber, plus a carousel and fast sweepers and a downhill 150 MPH straightway that leads to a high speed right hander to the back stretch. Dacula, Georgia's Tom Wilson won overall and V8 GT-1 both days in his ex Archer Bros. Motorola Cup Viper GTS. Wilson was fast, smooth and consistent, never putting a wheel wrong all weekend. Fast qualifier, overall, both days was Charles Wicht, from Big Pine Key, Florida, in his ex Kevin Harvick Snap On South West Tour Monte Carlo. Wicht had drive line problems both days, finishing second to La Belle, Fl racer Bruce Perra in V8 SPO on saturday with just fourth gear and going out while leading overall on Sunday with a broken u-joint. In the V8 GTA class, which features a lot of ex ASA tour cars, Georgia's Butch Kummer, 2006 South Atlantic Road Race Champion sat on the pole Saturday and led the first few laps before handling woes had him falling to fourth behind Jay Marshall, Doug Bramer, and local racer Dave Price. Sunday, Bosco Logsdon put the ex Gary St Amant ASA Monte Carlo on the V8 GTA pole. The Sebring track record holding Monte Carlo had just been purchased from Nascar shock engineer, Kurt Roehrig and was delivered to the track on Saturday morning. Bosco took the V8 GTA win over a hard charging Steve Magowan and finished second overall to Wilson's fast Viper. Charlotte's Doug Sanders took the V8 SPO win on Sunday utilizing an ex Busch series Monte Carlo as his weapon. The V8 StockCar series will return to action April 28 and 29 at
Roebling Road Raceway outside of Savannah. V8 StockCar thanks its partners who make it happen: Hoerr Racing Products, Goodyear, Sunoco, Hoosier, Five Star Bodies,
