Roebling Road September 2007

Eighteen of the V8 StockCar regulars were on hand at the SARRC Invitational Challenge held at Roebling Road Raceway, September 22-23 attempting to garner double points toward the V8SC class championships.

Roebling, with its' twisting backside and 2600 foot long front straight is an excellent test of both handling and horsepower.

There was no shortage of horsepower in the group, especially up front where perennial favorite "wild Bill" Smith put his SB2  powered stock car on the overall and V8 SPO class pole with a 1.11.733 clocking.  Lee Arnold took the second spot in the class.
In V8 GT-1 Wayne Cabaniss and his C4 Corvette edged out Jim King and his winged, lightened ex Busch series stock car.  First year racer Tom Graham surprised everyone by putting his "Caddy's On the Beach," Monte Carlo on the V8 GTA pole with a fast 1.15.482 clocking, nearly a full second faster than team mate George Lutich.

On race day, Smith led wire to wire in V8 SPO and also took the overall win.  Arnold gamely chased and ran his best ever lap at Roebling with a 1.12.588.  However, it just wasn't enough to catch "Wild Bill's wicked fast stock car.

In V8 GT-1, Jim King dramatically improved his lap times some 2 seconds a lap over qualifying and quickly reeled in pole sitter Cabaniss and his Vette, eventually pulling a way to a 20 second advantage.

Over in V8 GTA the competition was hot with Tom Graham, Jay Marshall, Wayne Quick, Tony Amico, Randy Gay, George Lutich and Tad Segars running closely through out the race.  In the end, Marshall moved up through the field from his fourth place starting spot to notch the win over the fast improving Tom Graham.  Wayne Quick came home third.

The Buccaneer region of the SCCA did another outstanding job hosting the SARRC.

Next up for the group is the American Road Race of Champions to held November 9-11 at world famous Road Atlanta Raceway.  Some 45 stock cars and GT-1 types are expected.
Top competitors like Jeff Emery, Gene Felton, Rick Dittman, Peter Morhauser, Joe Hooker,
Squeak Kennedy, Greg Cecil, Jay Marshall, Butch Kummer, Bryan Dobyns and a host of others are expected.
